If the Yelp App met the Urban Spoon App and had a baby, that baby would be the City Series iPad App. An offshoot of the online local guide website Citysearch.com, the City Series iPad App brings featured articles from local venues, restaurant recommendations, and pictures for foodies and cosmopolitans.

While CitySearch.com claims to cover over 75,000 cities nationwide, the Cityseries App only covers 10 major metro areas in the US (view publisher description for list). So if you live outside of the covered regions and/or don’t plan on visiting anytime soon, the Cityseries App is only best for Seattle, San Francisco, LA, Austin, Houston, Chicago, New York, DC, Atlanta, and Boston locals.

If you happen to live in a covered areas, then you’re in luck. Cityseries is a great app for finding new dive bars, drinks to try, and picking the next restaurant to try. Select your locale in the apps top-navigation and land on a magazine styled page dedicated to the selected city. Since the content comes from Citysearch.com, new articles and recommendations are pushed to the city dashboards each month with each new online issue (you can browse old articles by selecting prior issues). Within the dashboard, find local bar/restaraunt deals, random articles such as “Where to throw a party in New York” or places to find “Breakfast All Day in SF”.

While Urban Spoon and Yelp caters to foodies with something in mind, Cityseries takes the approach of serving dining recommendations for foodies who want to try new things or simply have the slightest clue of what to try. The content is entirely user driven, and each restaurant recommended links to user reviews from the CitySearch website.

While everything you get in the Cityseries app can be found on the CitySearch website, there is one cool feature in the app: Foodography. The App lets you browse through high definition and full screen food shots from your region and lets make Saturday night plans visually. Each foodograph comes with the restaraunts details, the menu item, and user reviews for that restaraunt.

Cityseries is a great app for foodies and connoseurs. Unfortunately, the app only caters to those who live in the 10 covered metros. If you just so happen to be in one, download Cityseries to help you the next time you have no idea where to go to eat.
