Vevo HD iPad App
Vevo, the music industry’s version of Hulu, has built an iPad app to support all your music video cravings. While most of us may intuitively think to use YouTube to watch the latest Lady Gaga (I’m semi-kidding) video, not all music videos are available on the iPad via Youtube. Part of the reason being that the iPad can’t support music videos in Flash, which many are. While the other reason is the majority of record labels restrict the videos they upload on YouTube from appearing on mobile devices. Why they would resort to such draconian measures is another topic. But at least on the Vevo HD iPad App, you can find your latest mainstream and popular music videos.
Don’t let the HD in Vevo HD full you, not all the videos available are in HD. But with the iPad’s smaller screen, videos appear in high quality and you generally don’t notice any dips in video quality.
Within the Vevo app, you can browse videos by artist, featured editor picks, genre, pre-set playlists, and you can even pull a local music map to see what other Vevo users in your area have been watching.
As I mentioned, the majority of artists and videos available on Vevo are of course more mainstream, if you’re looking for older music videos from the 90s or from indepednent artists – your best bet may still be to find these on YouTube. As for Vevo, think along the lines of Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Lil Wayne and the Black Eyed Peas variety.
While it’s not the most comprehensive music video collection, the Vevo HD app still offers a wide selection of main stream videos, allows you to customize music video playlists on the fly, and overall is a very intuitive and usable app for any user. We found little to no flaws with the app and highly recommend the Vevo HD app to any music lover.
