NBA Game Time Courtside App
For you NBA loving iPad owners, the NBA Game Time Courtside iPad app was released just in time for the 2010 NBA playoffs. With it, the app gives you a brilliant and rich multimedia experience complete with stats, previews, recaps, and video highlights for you to follow throughout the tournament.
The app utilizes and presents the wealth of information and media available on NBA.com to you in a pleasant and easy-to-use interface. Track live stats, follow play-by-plays, map shot charts, and follow the score during live games all through the app. When there aren’t live games on, you can browse video highlights, read game recaps, and preview upcoming games. Also, if that’s not enough for you to absorb, the NBA’s Twitter feed streams real-time across the bottom ticker of the app.
2-3 minute video highlights and clips are available from every series and during live games, half-time video recaps are made available. However, I found the videos to be low quality (definitely not HD) and slow to load. Also, due to the amount of rich media, vibrant interface, and live updates you find throughout the app – this content makes the app very laggy and choppy as you jump between series, stats, and scores.
Another crucial feature NBA Game Time Courside is missing, which the NHL Ice Time 2010 does have, is live in-game audio broadcasts. If the app offered audio broadcasts, I would easily give the NBA app a 4.5-5 star rating. I’m sure the lack of audio broadcasts is more a legal issue with local radio and media stations, but still, I want my audio!
Overall, I’m very happy with the app, and even though I prefer to watch Lebron on my 46″ Samsung, having the iPad app live on my coffee table does enrich and pull me into the playoffs moreso than in past years.
